About Us

Griffin Daly Medical Centre is a long established general practice run by an experienced team of practitioners in two locations in Limerick; John’s Square in the City and University Court in Castletroy. Established over 40 years ago, it is one of the longest standing practices in Ireland with a loyal patient base.

Dr. Gillian Daly, Dr. Michael Griffin and nurse Geraldine Ryan have decades of health care experience. Together, they provide patients with a comprehensive range of services, including family medicine, women’s health, men’s health, pediatrics and sports medicine.

We have a number of other experienced doctors working in our practice including Dr. Peter Hayes and Dr. Matina Symeonidi. Please contact us if you wish to arrange an appointment with any of our staff.

Dr Gillian Daly, a native of Limerick was educated in Laurel Hill Colaiste secondary school before completing her medical undergraduate degree in University College Cork, graduating in 2009 with an honours degree.

Having completed her internship training in University Hospital Limerick and Cork University Hospital she returned to Limerick for her General Practice training on the Mid West Vocational GP training scheme from 2010-2014.

On graduating from the scheme she continued to work in the Limerick area in a mixture of both rural and urban practices before joining Dr. Michael Griffin’s practice as an assistant in 2015. In 2019 she became a partner in the practice and in January 2021 she became the practice principal.

While in UCC Dr Daly was awarded a scholarship for finishing in first place in her class in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Dr Daly has a particular interest in women’s health and has completed a diploma in Obstetrics and Gynaecology from the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. She has spent a number of years working in the Limerick Family Planning Clinic and has an interest in contraception, family planning and fertility medicine. She has a certificate in family planning and in long acting reversible contraception (LARC) and is experienced in inserting Mirena coil and Implanon contraceptive devices.

Dr. Daly also specialises in Paediatric medicine and has completed a diploma in child health, the DCh, from the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health in the UK. She is also a lecturer in Clinical Skills at the University of Limerick Graduate Entry Medical School.

Professor Michael Griffin

Professor Michael Griffin is a native of Limerick who graduated from UCG in 1974. Gaining experience in general medicine in he initiated his own training in General Practice.

Dr. Griffin gained a Diploma in Children’s Health 1975 before travelling to London to gain his Diploma with Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. He also specialised in Family Planning gaining a certificate with MFFP.

Dr. Griffin set up his own practice in 1977 in Limerick City serving the families is his community. He also became the Medical Officer for University of Limerick, 1980, founding the Student Health Services Centre where he developed many initiatives such as the Crisis Pregnancy Programme and expanded the counselling services.

Founding member of the Irish College of GP he became Limerick’s first GP trainer, and subsequently founded the Mid-West GP Training Scheme, 1990. This scheme is now based in the University of Limerick.

Dr. Griffin collaborated with Dr. Declan Ahern, developing the Human Doctor Program, aimed at teaching younger doctors how to manage human feelings and counsel patients within the practice. He went on to deliver workshops on the topic worldwide with WONCA.

He was recently appointed adjunct associate professorship with the University of Limerick.

As a keen athlete Prof. Griffin also specialises in Sports Medicine. He was appointed medical officer to the National Coaching and Training centre and assisted with Olympic Council. As doctor for Young Munsters, Munster Rugby and for the Senior Irish Rugby Team Dr. Griffin has had national and international clinical exposure.
